In 1951, Joachim Rost began an apprenticeship in a Berlin body shop that would lead to a passion for repairing and restoring German cars. There, he learned what quality auto repair truly is: only the best craftsmen, materials, and techniques should be used to do a job right. In 1966, Joachim carried this tradition of quality repair to the U.S. and opened German Auto Body in Palo Alto. Joachim taught his son John about this tradition of quality. Since joining the family business 25 years ago, John has kept alive the spirit of passion for quality auto repair his father first learned in that small shop in Berlin.

German Auto Body has an extensive knowledge of German vehicles and other makes and models that meet the same standards of high craftsmanship.

A quality car demands quality repairs – a perfect fit for us. Our factory-trained technicians and painters are, quite literally, the best in the industry. Our craftsmen are current in their technical knowledge, use the best tools and equipment available, and apply factory standards as a rule of thumb. We take pride in our experts’ ability to apply metal finishing, not body filler, to dents and dings, and we have won many awards for the quality of our paint application. You have a choice when it comes to who will repair your collision-damaged vehicle. You are not obligated to use the repair shop your insurance refers you to. We work well with insurance companies, and we will be pleased to handle the paperwork and the negotiations to file your claim. But we are unlike other shops because we do not have Direct Repair Provider contracts with any insurer in exchange for their referring customers to us. Such agreements can force us to cut corners in the quality of a repair.

We refuse to make these cuts, insisting on using original parts when needed instead of substitutions. We work for you, not them, and we believe we better service our clients by maintaining this independence from the whims of the insurance industry. It is our reputation that brings us business, not insurers. You may not notice all the hard work and attention to detail we apply when repairing or restoring your car, but you will certainly notice the feeling that your car is better than it was even before your accident .
